Text to Binary Converter
Translate text into binary code (groups of 0s and 1s) or turn binary back into readable text. Type or paste your input, then click Text → Binary or Binary → Text.
About This Text to Binary Converter
Computers store every character as a number, and binary is that number written with only 0s and 1s. This converter turns each character of your text into its 8-bit binary value, separated by spaces — for example, the letter "A" becomes 01000001.
To decode, paste binary groups separated by spaces (each group up to 8 digits) and click Binary → Text. It works best with standard English letters, numbers and common punctuation (ASCII).
How to Use It
- Type or paste text into the input box.
- Click Text → Binary to encode it, or paste binary groups and click Binary → Text to decode.
- Read the result in the output box.
- Click Copy Output to save it.
Binary Basics
- Each group of 8 binary digits is one byte and represents one character.
- Uppercase and lowercase letters have different codes: "A" is 01000001 and "a" is 01100001.
- The space character is 00100000.
Limits: characters outside basic ASCII/Latin-1 (emoji, Arabic, Chinese and so on) produce longer binary values and will not convert back correctly with this tool. For plain English text, encoding and decoding round-trips exactly.
Who Is This Tool For?
- Students — learn how computers represent text.
- Teachers — demonstrate binary in class.
- Puzzle makers — create binary messages and codes.
- Developers — check character codes quickly.

Yes — use the toolbox at the top of this page: paste your text and press Remove Line Breaks. Every line break is replaced with a space, joining everything into a single line of text, which is handy for forms, spreadsheets and code. If the joined text ends up with double spaces, the main tool on this page cleans those too.
